Generally you can compare the High School with the comprehensive school because there aren't any other types of secondary schools (synonym for High School).
There are two types of High Schools in the United States of America. The one is just the colloquial one, that contains the grades of 9-12. The privat schools also contain the same grades and they are also more esteemed. Although the private schools are more esteemed, the level of the High School Diploma is the same. Sometimes little differents may appear because the level in private schools is often a bit higher and stricter.
The lessons last 55 minutes. The whole school day is separated in the morning and the afternoon part. Between these two parts the lunch brake takes its place. Often the school ends at 15:30 o'clock, but that can vary.
There are different notions for every grade. 9th Grade is called Freshman Year, the 10th Grade is named Sophomore Year, 11th Grade is called Junior Year and the 12th Grade is named Senior Year.
