Auf "How do you do?" (sehr konservatives britisches Englisch!) antwortet man seltsamerweise mit "How do you do?", weil es eine Begrüßung ist und keine Frage nach dem Befinden (diee wäre : How are you (doing). "What's up?" ist Umgangsprache und heißt nichts anderes als "Was ist los?" Was geht" und passt deshalb nur, wenn man DIES meint und mit Kumpels redet. Eine Antwort wäre z.B. I'm just having a drink. ODER: I'm bored.

"How do you do?" heißt nicht wie viele meinen "Wie gehts dir?" Sondern ist nur eine Berüßungsfloskel! Wer also mit "I'm fine, thanks. How are you?" Antwortet, tritt in's sprachliche Fettnäpchen :)
