Warum steht in meinem englisch Buch hier "is" statt "are"?

Der Satz:

The journalist and the inspector often meet each other when there is news to report.

News sind doch aber in der Mehrzahl und deswegen are oder?

Aus meinem Verständnis ist "is" hier falsch, auch wenn es so da steht. Zumindest haben beide ihre Berechtigung. News als pl oder news als sg

"News is..." ist richtig.

"News" steht im Singular und hat keinen Plural.

Hallo,

news (Nachrichten) kommt zwar wie eine Pluralform daher, wird aber mit einem Singular-Verb verwendet. So heißt es: „What time is the news on TV? oder auch "No news is good news."

nein, das ist eine Ausnahme! news = sg.

andererseits: organisationen, Institutionen sind immer pl: the police are coming
