Darsteller im Michael Jackson Musikvideo "Who is it"

3 Antworten

“Man kann nicht nicht kommunizieren” is one of the five axioms from the Austrian communication scientist Paul Watzlawick. The meaning of the axiom is that it is not possible not to communicate. But not only people from the same country with the same language, with the same culture and the same religion have to communicate. There are a lot of different behaviors, habits and thoughts which make communication difficult. For this essay about intercultural communication I used the video from Ted Talks with the title “What do you think when you look at me” from Dalia Mogahed. She talks about the prejudices against Muslims, the problems she had after the terrorist attacks from the 11th September and how people from different cultures declare their solidarity with Muslims. We live in a globalized world where we need to communicate with all kind of different cultures. Our neighbors are from Turkey, Russia, Spain, to sum up from all over the world. We live and work with them and that’s the reason why it is so important to communicate with them. But what is intercultural communication? It describes the verbal and nonverbal interaction between people from different cultures. At first view, it sounds very easy, but it is not just to overcome the language barrier, it is even more. The talk of Dalia Mogahed is about the prejudices against Muslims, the courage to maintain to her religion and also to overcome prejudices. She is a woman who has decided to be a Muslim, and she had the courage to out herself as one in front of her feminist friends. Dalia tells that they had prejudices against her new religion, and they claimed that she is oppressing herself. After the 11th of September 2001, she was afraid to be a Muslim for the first time and afraid to visit a mosque. Attacks on mosques and against people who are Muslims or who were perceived to be Muslims happened. But although these things happened, she has decided to visit the mosque. And in this mosque, were people from all kind of faith and also people with no faith who stand in solidarity together with the Muslims in their congregation. If somebody would ask me which ideas from the video are very important for me, I would choose the following ones. Firstly, the fact that people are afraid of Muslims because of terror attacks which are motivated by the religion is comprehensible. But it is wrong to say that every single Muslim is a terrorist. These are prejudices which exist because the people don´t catch up on different cultures or religions like the Islam. They think, they know what is written in the Quran, but the most of them don´t. Their opinion is influenced by media and other peoples. These aspects together are the reason for these prejudices. This is also one of the most important idea in the talk.
