man könnte es zum Beispiel so erzählen: "The hype around [famous person] passed me by completely, I hardly noticed it."

Hmmm ... wenn etwas "completely passed me by" dann war es das.

"hardly noticed" impliziert das man doch ein bisschen davon mitbekommen hat.

Not having Realized / Noticed ..

Sonst gibt es kein wirkliches Wort welches die ganze Phrase ausdrückt, eventuell kannst du sowas sagen wie :

i am so illiterate, i have not noticed the trend at all

Ist eine Übertreibung die ausdrücken soll, dass man den Trend „verpasst“ hat, als wäre es wichtig gewesen, ihn mitzubekommen.
