Kann es sein, dass die While-Schleife unzulässig auseinandergerissen wurde und htmlspecialchars() an sich kein Problem darstellt?
also syntax ist korrekt
htmlspecialchars($testvariable)
was genau ist denn deine fehlermeldung?
