Eine Kirche ist ein christliches Gotteshaus. Kathedralen und Dome sind natürlich auch Kirchen. Aber nicht jede Kirche ist ein Dom oder eine Kathedrale. Eine Kathedrale ist eine bischöfliche Hauptkirche. Ein Dom ist eine Kirche mit einer Kuppel, denn "Dom" = "Kuppel". Nicht jeder Dom ist eine Kathedrale und auch nicht jede Kathedrale hat eine Kuppel. Der Sankt-Peters-Dom in Rom ist jedoch sowohl Kathedrale wie auch Dom (riesige Kuppel) wie auch Kirche.
