Challenges of Electromobility
My presentation is about the challenges of electro mobility. These challenges of electro mobility were created by the American automobile manufacturer “Tesla Motors”. Tesla with his advanced electro cars and its fast charging infrastructure has proven, that electro cars are the environmentally better alternative to conventional cars with gasoline motors.
Here are my challenges for the next 5-10 years: 1. Economic E-Vehicles – zero-emission driving for all transport modes 2. A fast charging infrastructure in Europe 3. Can Germany produce enough renewable electricity for e-cars? 4. A disruptive technology is challenging Germany’s automobile industry
-
Economic E-Vehicules (EV) – for all transport modes a. Affordable vehicles for private, public and commercial transportation b. All electric Range (target: average 500km) c. recharging time (target: 30min. for 80% full)
-
Large-scale fast charging infrastructure We need fast charging stations all 200km at highways and in the cities all around Europe! (Bild: example: Tesla supercharger network Europe…es sind heute bereits … Ladestationen)
All automobile manufacturer in Europe haven`t got a sufficient fast charging infrastructure – so far.
The build up of a fast charging infrastructure network is a major challenge.
-
Only renewable electricity to fuel EV Zero-emission driving is only possible, if the electricity used in EV comes from renewable energy resources only. Relevant is the carbon foodprint (global warming impact) of the energy production for the operation of EVs. Germany / Europe must produce enough renewable energy for the increasing number of electric cars in the future. (Grafik einfügen)

Managing the change in German Automobile Industry The electro mobility is a disruptive technology. This means, the electro mobility is good for the environment but it damages the traditional automobile economy in Europe, above all the car industry in Germany.
Definition: Disruptive innovation is a term which refers to an innovation that creates a new market and value network and eventually disrupts an existing market and value network, displacing established market leading firms, products, and alliances. An innovation that creates a new market by providing a different set of values, which ultimately (and unexpectedly) overtakes an existing market.
Comparison between electric cars and gasoline cars: 1. Quote from the BMW Works Council Chairman Manfred Schoch: "An eight-cylinder engine has 1200 parts that need to be assembled, an electric motor only 17 parts."
- Since an electric car has 90 times fewer moving parts, the maintenance effort goes to zero. The workshops would have at most 20% utilization. Also, spare parts are less
