-1800: the West of the US was populated by Native Americans, Mexicans and the French
-mid-1800s: the US government took over the West by buying territories and also by having war with the citizens
-many white people from the East should move to the West so they've built the first ever transcontinental railway from New York to California in a time from 1850 to 1869
-due to that, many Native Americans had to leave their homeland and died
-the opening of the West went even further -> 1926: Route 66 from Chicago to the Pacific was opened and everyone could be mobile then
-Route 66 isn't used that much anymore -> mostly by tourists who consider it as 'the gateway to the sun and the relaxed lifestyle of the Southwest'
