The speech "i have a Dream" delivered by Martin Luther King at the 1963 March on Washington D.C. is one of the most famous speeches of the world. The key messagen in his speech is to equalize the rights of black and white people. His aim was to convince the south from his opinion, but how did he do that? In the following text i will analyse MLK´s speech on his rhetorical devices.
The most eye-catching thing in the speech are the three words "I have a Dream", like in the topic of the speech he uses the three words very often. This rhetorical device, the parallelism is used by MLK to make his speech more memorable. (l. 11 l. 14 l.19). MLK put the rhetorical device, the direct adress into the beginning of the speech, this is one of the most important feature in his speech to get attention from the audience, because by using this MLK make the audience feel involved, he makes the publikum feel to be a part of his speech, for the reason he placed it at the beginning of the speech. He also uses other rhetorical devices to make his speech interesting. In line 4 he uses a quotation ( "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal"). This is a quotation from the Declaration of Independence, he uses this quotation to connecting something that everybody knows with his faith, because it is easier to understand somethink you already know.
With this speech MLk changes a hole country and the fate of many people and this is come true, because he used rhetorical devices and other stratagies to convince the audience succesfully.
