Ich finde große Männer toll. Allerdings sollten man(n) nicht zu dünn sein, sonst wirkt es schlaksig.

Das kommt darauf an, was das Diagramm zeigt. Wenn es Daten sind die aktuell sind dann benutze das simple present:

z.B. The diagram pictures the current price of oil. The price is....

Wenn es ältere Daten sind:

z.B. The diagram pictures the price of oil in 2010. The price was...

Wenn du Daten vergleichst:

According to the diagram the current price of oil is lower than it was 20 years ago

According to the diagram oil has never been as cheap as in 2010

Welche Zeiten du benutzt hängt also davon ab, was du wann beschreiben möchtest.
