Warum leuchten alte Radium-Uhren nicht mehr?
Radium 226 hat doch eine Halbwertszeit von über 1000 Jahren. Radioaktiv sind die Uhren auch noch. Aber ein Leuchten ist nicht mehr erkennbar. Warum ist das so? Liegt das an dem verwendeten Phosphor? Würde es wieder leuchten, wenn man was anderes fluoreszierendes über das Radium macht?

Auch wenn das Radium noch strahlt, leuchtet der Phosphor nicht mehr, weil die Alphastrahlung seine Struktur verändert hat. Das geschieht ziemlich rasch.
The phosphor degrades relatively fast and the dials lose luminosity in several years to a few decades; clocks and other devices available from antique shops and other sources therefore are not luminous any more. However, due to the long 1600 year half-life of the Ra-226 isotope they are still radioactive and can be identified with a Geiger counter.

Wenn Phosphor enthalten ist, muss das eine Weile ans Licht. So wird es aufgeladen und strahlt dann sehr lange nach.
Du schreibst, dass Phosphor drin ist. Lade es einfach am Licht auf und staune.
Ja, genau gesagt heißt das Zeug, was in Radium Farbe neben Radium enthalten ist Zinksulfat. Das Zeug hat quasi keine nachleuchtende Wirkung.
Du meinst normale Leuchtfarbe, ich meine aber Radium. Ich messe mit meinem Geigerzähler vor der Uhr 20 Mikrosievert, es muss also Radium sein.
