It's been a couple of years ago now, but I still remember the first time my mum let my brother and me find out more about our family's Dreaming. She had my uncle Charlie, who is an artist, take us to his studio. We were so happy when he let us see his paintings. When he explained them, it made us realize that his paintings aren't just nice to look at, but also have a lot of cultural meaning and pass on beliefs and knowledge. We visited him a lot after that and one day he let each of us choose some colours and try to paint too. But first, he made us put on old T-shirts so that we wouldn't get paint on our clothes. After we had finished painting, he let us look at each other's paintings and say what they meant to us. Then he let us take our paintings home."
