Hello, my name is lea and I am 14 years old. I want to tell you something about the company Nike. Nike is an American company. The Company sells sport shoes, sport clothes, sport equipment and sport accessories. Nike is one of the worlds top sports companys. I found out that the sales volume (Umsatzvolumen) of Nike is about 32 Billions Us-dollar and that Nike has 1.045 shop's around the world. In Germany there are 26 Nike shop's. Nike's head office (Hauptsitz) is in the near of Beaverton in Oregon. A total of 70.700 people works in Nike. Nike, original known as Blue Ribbon Sports, was founded by Phil Knight a middle distance runner and his coach Bill Bowerman in 1964. Their love to the sport is what brought them together, but they also had a love for technology of sport shoes and sport clothes. In 1962 Phil finished his studies and went to a trip around the world. While Phil was working for Onitsuka Tiger today asics, he tought it would make a lot more profit if he started producing their own shoes. In 1971 the first worker of Blue ribbon sports Jeff Johnson thought up the name Nike. The Name came from the Greek goddess of victory Nike. Phil Knight had already get a name for his company, but he needed a logo. Caroline Davidson was asked to design the logo for Nike. Carolyn Davidson was only paid $35 dollars for her design. The Nike design logo was taken from the greek goddness of victory. The logo should be one of her wings. That means the Nike logo design stands for victory or winning. Over the years the Nike logo design has changed. The last words of a serial killer were "let's do it". This inspired Nike for the slogan "just do it". just do it was fast one of the most popular slogans. The mission of Nike was to bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world. With athlete they mean everybody who has a body. Jeff Johnson ( the first worker of Nike ) very soon became a involved man for the new company. He created brochures and shot photos for catalogues. They opened the first store in California. The success of Nike came from the sponsorship to famous athletes. At the Olympic Games in the year 1972 in Munich started the athlete Steve prefontaine, who get trained before from bowerman, with Nike shoes. He got the 4th place and he has made Nike famous with other athlets. In 1978 Nike also sells shoes in Europe. Nike has also sponsored many other successful athletes over the years. Nike has been the official clothes sponsor for the Indian cricket team since 2005. Nike also sponsored football player such as Ronaldo. Now I am talking about the things that Nike sells.
Clothes
Nike makes all sorts of clothing for sporting activities. They also make normal clothes for men, women and kids. A lot of people wear Nike clothes not just for sport, but also for brand status.
Equipment
Nike also sells sports equipment such as baseball bats, all kinds of balls, gloves and swimming caps.
Gloves (Handschuhe), yoga mats, knee pads and shin guards (Schienbeinschoner) are all things Nike produce and sell.
Accessoires
Nike is also well known for accessories such as watches, bags, caps, socks, sunglasses and even more.
Shoes
Shoes are Nike's main product. The company makes shoes for a lot of different kind of sports. They also make outdoor shoes. And now I tell you something about the first Nike shoe. In 1972, Bill bowermann used his wife's waffle iron (Waffeleisen) filled with rubber (Gummi) to make the sole of nike's first shoe, that had better traction than any other shoe. It was called the Moon shoe.
And today is only Phil the manager of Nike, because Bill died in 1999 on Christmas. This was my short talk. Thank you for listening 😇
