In her Commonwealth Day Message, 9 March 2009, the Queen expresses her personal view about the British nation and its developments. She is proud of Britain and shares her gratitude and respect with us. This is made clear by several rhetorical devices she makes use of giving the speech. The Queen especially underlines the importance of values which in her opinion mustn’t forgotten. Enumeration: ´freedom, democracy, human rights, development, prosperity´ (ll.10-11) and ´ wisdom, energy and creativity´ (ll.24) shows that the Queen considers values to be necessary anytime. The values are very important to her. It shows a personification' a family of nations and people’s '(ll.12-13). Moreover, on the contrary, the Queen conveys the feelings that for her change and development are particularly welcome. She therefore employs a parallel structure climax ´...help shape the Commonwealth of today, and whose children will inherit the Commonwealth of tomorrow ´(ll.17-19). And in Hyperbole ´ across continents and oceans, we have come to represent all the rich diversity of humankind´ (ll.7-8).
