Hey, ich bin gerade in der 13ten Klasse. Eines meiner Abiturfächer ist Englisch im LK und ich würde gerne um eine Einschätzung der potenziellen Note einer Erarbeitung bitten:

Thema: The impact of social media on mental health (Semester 4)Statement:

"Social media has made young people more anxious and unhappy. The best solution is to ban it for anyone under 16."

Aufgabe: Write a comment (ca. 250–300 words) in which you take a clear position on this statement.
Meine Erarbeitung ist die folgende:
For the past few years we have been able to see rising levels in depression and anxiety in young people. One main cause is said to be social media. But would Banning it until a certain age really be beneficial?
The idea is that there should be a social media ban for anyone under 16 years. With that, kids and teenagers wouldn't be negatively affected by social media in their early life. While this idea seems straight forward, it is actually not true the best solution. Social medias negative effects, such as FOMO, idealism or dangerous challenges can all be understood and recognized, when informed. We can already see that with a lot of children today. They understand trends and challenges and can, when informed, judge whether the challenge, or trend is good or bad for them or the internet. This shows that negative aspects definitely can be recognized by children and avoided. Therefore the idea can come into ones mind, that children should be trained and informed. Short: they need media competence. This media competence develops as explained on its own already, but it can be amplified. Schools and Parents can help students and young teenagers develop a better media competence and this is what should be aimed for. Bannig it, is a short term solution for a long term problem. Social media is there and it won't go away. Banning it is just taking time away from young people to adapt and learn. And after the ban they just get thrown into a shark tank. I don't think it is fair and it is definitely not the best solution therefore.

Now people can argue, that while it isn't a long term solution, it could be short term until more research comes out, with which we can make better decisions. Against that i would argue, that the general idea of a ban is not something that is even achieveable. Think about it: banning one of the most stimulating and fun activities for every person under 16? Is that really something that could work? I do not think that is could be done. We can already see it in Nepal, where a social media ban resultet in the attack on the government. It is the same as taking Vacation for Employees away, its just not possible to do.

A social media ban can seem logical at first. It is an intuitive idea but in reality it is not sustainable. There can not be a social media ban for young people. And even if there could be one, it would not be the best option to deal with their problems. The depression and anxiety problems need to be dealt with, thats definitely true. One solution would be to help young people understand more about trends and challenges, so that they can judge on their own. Another possibility is to change platforms in some way, to reduce the negative effects.

Welche Note würdet ihr mir für die Arbeit geben? (Bitte fair ohne schönreden)
