Hey, ich habe gerade spontan einen informellen Brief über ein Buch, was ich gerade lese, geschrieben. Ich wollte nur wissen, ob ihr irgendwelche Verbesserungsvorschläge habt? Stil, Grammatik, Formulierung, Zeitform, usw.
Best wishes!
Dear Sarah,
I hope you're doing well and that you've enjoyed your summer holidays so you can go back to school with alot of energy! Is your mother doing well? In your last letter you briefly mentioned she was dealing with bad headaches.
In the last four weeks I've read the book "Living and Working in the Days of Charles Dickens". It deals with the industrialisation in the United Kingdom in the 18th century. The book literally opened my eyes how brutally the industrialisation, especiallyinthe cottage industry and coal mines, affected the hard working people! People had no other option than working in the coal mines or in cotton mills, because this was the only way of earning money back then. The working conditions were unhuman and the workers were getting exploited by the factory owners. Especially for childern it was a difficult time to survive. They often became orphans and had no home neither semeone who took care of them. That exploitation of hard working people caused the gap between poor and rich to grow. When Lord Shaftesburry, a man born into a rich upper-class family, got elected into the House of Commons, living- and working conditions started to became much better for those hard working people. This milestone was reached through winning a debate in the House of Commons against factory-owners and their representatives in Parliament, who didn't care about about the children's welfare in the slightest.
You can learn so many things about the beginning of the industrialisation and what it caused in soceity back these days. Industrialisation really changed the circumstances and class distinctions. The book even has it's own chapter about Elizabeth Fry, and I know you like her! She is one of your role models, isn't she? Maybe the book is a good choice for you to read, I would reccomend it to you!
Are you willing to visit me during the next holidays in Germany? Feel free to come!
All the best!
