It started operations in March 2005 with intra-Asian services. It is the first cargo airline in China with foreign ownership[citation needed].

Lufthansa Italia, a subsidiary which operates flights from Milan Malpensa to destinations across Europe, with a fleet of eight Airbus A319 aircraft. It was intended to capture a large slice of the Milan market following major cutbacks by Alitalia as a result of its hub change to Rome Fiumicino Airport.[22] However the Lufthansa Italia brand will be closed down on 29 October 2011 and the eight Airbus A319 aircrafts will be returned to the parent company.[23]
