First I want to tell you about Nelson Mandela. In 1918 he was born in Qunu, Eastern. In 1944 he joined in the ANC. In 1964-1999 he went in prison for anti-apartheid activism. In 1993 he win the Nobel Peace Prize. In 1994 he elected as first black President of South Africa.

Now I tell you about the aftermath. After more violent black protest, the white politicians were weaken by international opposition. In 1989 the president De Klerk revoked the ban on the ANC and released Nelson Mandela after a 27-year imprisonment. The first multiracial election resulted in an victory for the ANC. In 1960 and 1994 Archbishop Desmond Tutu took up it's work investigating human rights violations. In Thabo Mbeki won the following election. In 2004 he was elected to a second term. Also e deals with a declining economy. The HIV and AIDS cases are the highest number in Africa. In April 2009 he was ousted from power with the help of Jacob Zuma he became the new South African president.
