Ann opened her eyes slowly. She felt a little bit dizzy and had a slight headache but her limbs seemed to be alright and the ground underneath her was quite soft and almost comfortable to lie on. She lifted her head and looked around. She was more than surprised when she found that around her was fine white sand scattered with a few smooth round pebbles and to her right there was the sea, its surface calm and quiet, only slightly rippled by a light breeze.

Heaven, she thought, I must be in heaven. What had happened? She remembered being inside a car, a flashing light, an incredible loud noise, then darkness. Did she die in a car crash? Well, she thought, if this is dying, it's not so bad after all. Nothing to be afraid of. In fact, it felt much better than life, thinking about it. Because her life had been pretty terrible recently. That new boyfriend of her mother was a downright bastard. He had moved in two months ago and ordered her around as if she was his maid. When she complained, her mother told her she should be happy for her and appreciate the fact that they were now a family again. Family, pah! In Ann's opinion they've never been a family at all. Even when her father was still alive all she could remember was quarrels and fighting and even the occasional "good hiding". Her best friend Beth had what Ann considered a real family: warm, loving people, with friendly faces that laughed a lot together. Beth even was given a puppy last christmas. As Beth's mother was not able to have a second child due to something that happened at Beth's birth she decided that Beth should have a pet as company. Ann loved Beth very much but the fact that she had a dog now, a warm soft animal to call her own, made her green with envy! Some kids have all the luck, she thought.

But the surrounding that she found herself in now really pleased her. Yes, she was all alone on that beautiful beach but that was much better than being in the wrong company. Mom and wretched Michael had obviously gone to hell, she thought and couldn't stop grinning.

Sorry, das Ende fehlt noch.
