Unfortunately, I didn’t know him for a long time [...]

Klingt komisch, dieser Teil. Kannst du ihn umstellen? Ebenfalls fehlt ein Komma.

I was extremely happy and wanted to know him better [...]

Klingt komisch, ist aber okay.

[...] so I went this year with my boyfriend to visit him in Spain.

Kannst du das umstellen? Z.B. [...] so this year I went to Spain with my boyfriend to visit him [...]

[...] but I didn’t know what I was getting myself into.

Das myself ist optional aber erläutert den Zusammenhang nochmal.

[...] looking forward to this adventure.

for ist falsch, benutze to (to look forward to sth)

Claudio is a bit older than me.

Kleiner Fehler bzgl. Person und Rechtschreibung.

[...] mentioned that we look and act very alike.

Da bin ich mir auch unsicher - very oder much?

[...] and I am looking forward to know him better.

Kannst du das umstellen?

Der Text ist aber ziemlich gut - Respekt!

My older brother Claudio is very important to me. Unfortunately (Komma) I
didn’t know (Grammatik) him for a long time. When he was little, his father took him to his parents in Spain and my mother wasn’t able to bring him back to Switzerland. It was a really hard time for my mother because nobody was willing to help her. Three years ago (Komma) I was able to find him through Facebook. I was extremely happy and wanted to (Hier fehlt etwas.) know him better, so I went this year with my boyfriend to visit him in Spain (Satzstellung).

It was very exciting for me, but (Wort) I didn’t know what I was getting into. Either way (Komma) I was looking forward for (Präposition) this adventure. Claudio is a bit older then (Wort) I (Grammmatik). He is 39 years old and he lives with his wife and their dog in an apartment in Malaga. We spent our holiday (Wort) in their apartment. I was very surprisedthat we are so similar even though we grew up separately. All of his relatives (---) we visited (Komma) mentioned that we look and act very (Hier fehlt ein Wort.) alike.
Despite the language barrier we got along very well. He gave me the
feeling to be part of his family.

It is a great feeling to suddenly have an older brother and I am looking forward to (Hier fehlt etwas.) know (Grammatik) him better.
