-going to present Abraham Lincoln
-16. president of the United States
-was against slavery
-1800 about 900.000 slaves lived in the USA,but only 40.000 in the northern states
-born in 1809 in Kentucky
-moved to Indiana in 1816 and lived there the rest of his youth. His mother died when he
-later moved to Springfield, the capital of Illinois
-his first oration against slavery was 1837
-became a lawyer
-1842 married Mary Ann Todd
-her parents did not accept the marriage because they had slaves on their fields and knew that Lincoln was against slavery
-in 1858 he wanted to become a senator. He lost the election, but in debating with Stephen A. Douglas he gained a national reputation that won him the Republican nomination for President in 1860
-when he was elected president in 1860, South Carolina and six other southern slave states left the union to form the Confederate States of America
-four more states joined
-they were scared of losing their slaves because the southern states were agricultural and needed slaves for farms
-12. April 1861 some people from the confederate states shot soldiers from the north
-a civil war started.
-First it was a war to preserve the Union
-became a battle for freedom and a war to end slavery
-the northern states won the war because they had more soldiers and a better economy 1865 Lincoln was shot by a man from the confederate states
I chose Abraham Lincoln because without him there still would be legal slavery in the United States. Maybe there a still some slaves and not all accept African-Americans, but it is much better than in the past, just because Abraham Lincoln made a big step in the right direction.
Also der erste Teil besteht grad nur aus Stichpunkten, aber wir dürfen halt auch nur Stichpunkte benutzen und das am Ende schreib ich noch um :)
