In the drama "A Steetcar named Desire" by Tennessee Williams Blanche DuBois plays an important role.
Blanche is Stella's five years older sister and grew up on Belle Reve. Besides, she comes from a family of French origin. After leaving Belle Reve she traveled to New Orleans to visit her sister. Moreover, Stella's and Blanche's father died, subsequently Stella decided to left the family. This behavior disappointed Blanche. However, she was afraid to see her little sister again and wants to be near Stella.That illustrates the love between the two womens and the significance of family in Blanche's live. Also, Blanche was a high school English teacher in Laurel, until she was terminate her post. Furthermore, she is a graceful lady, who wears earrings of pearl,white gloves, a white suit, a necklace and a hat. These clothes emphasize, that Blache is a gentelwoman with commondable attitudes. In addition, she was shocked about Stella's living conditions and can not comprehend her sister, who never get in touch with her. She stands out of her new unusual environment. Blanche is decribed as a moth, which symbolsizes escape and annoyance. Her noble appearance can be just a fassade, which hide her uncertain and fragile personality. This trade becomes apparent, while reading the first part of szene two. There, Stella asks Stanley be kind to Blanche by admiring her appearance. It showes, that Blanche searches confirmation.
All in all, Blanche DuBois is a lovely and friendly Person, who values family cohesion. She has knowledge about good behavior, but has a fragile personality, which exists behind her artificially wall to protect her weaken.
