Aborigines are native Australian. 50.000 years ago they settled down in Australia. The Aborigines are known as a consistent (einheitlich) nation. But their various tribes got differences in language and customs. They live in harmony with their land and nature.
The arrival of the first settlers in Australia in 1779 led to violent conflicts between them and the native Australian. Reasons for this were the different culture, but mainly the quarrel over the land. , because the Aborigines don’t know something like estate. They consider themselves as keepers of the land, which they have to care and beware.
During this time the population of the Aborigines declined very strong, because they were evicted from the Europeans into the inner country. Many Aborigines were killed by the settlers, or became ill, because there were new infections, which the settlers had brought to Australia. Since 1950 there were more humane rights for the Aborigines. 1960 Aborigines were recognized civil rights (including voting rights).
In 1976 the aboriginal owners got their territories back by reason of the "Aboriginal Land Rights Act".
An important sanctuary, the Uluru (Ayers Rock) was given back in 1983. Since 1997 the National Sorry Day is famous in Australia. It’s the excuse for all violence to the Aborigines of the withe people.
For example the stolen generation. It means that children were taken away from young aboriginal mothers.
Today about three-quarters of all Aborigines live in cities and have adapted the withe lifestyle. But this part is also the poorest part of the population in the Australian society, because they have less education and live in the cities as "isolated strangers" in ghettos. The widespread unemployment leads to alcoholism. But they receive their traditional rituals and culture.
Some of the Tribes are still living, for example in the Northern Territory outback.
Traditional way of Live:
Culture ( traditional art und music )
The traditional art of the Aborigines is one of "the oldest continuous art traditions in the world." It was painted with ashes, blood,, feathers, stones and shells on bark slabs and rocks. The engraving on wood and rocks, the sculpture and the sand-painting also belongs to the Aboriginal Art.
Art was mainly a part of rituals and marking of territories. In addition stories passed down through art to the next generations.
Traditional music is very important for the Aborigines. The music passed down the content of the tribal laws and it supported the communication of historical stories or experiences, such as the Dreamtime. There is a so-called “songman”, who is responsible for the singing and performing the ritual. Often, a rhythm is dictated by wooden sticks
