In ,,Looking for Alaska‘‘ from John Green we can observe that there aren‘t any names of the days. It seems like a Countdown. So the question arises as Alaska‘s death is foreshadowed.
First of all, we get very much references that Alaska‘s mentally condition is really bad. On page 37 l.27 Alaska‘s unpredictability is really clarion. Futhermore it is clear that Alaska‘s unhappiness is increasing. On page 31 she told the Colonel that she‘s a person with real problems. In according to page 48, where Alaska said: ,, Y‘all smoke to enjoy it. I smoke to die.‘‘ and to page 56 l.22, where she said: ,, I may die young, but at least I‘ll die smart.‘‘ the reader gets the impression that Alaska maybe wants to enjoy life but also that she is not afraid of dying. Last but not least we get any last references in the last chapter before the accodent. There it was described that Alaska looked like a train wreck (p. 126 l.17) and that she said, that she is a deeply unhappy person (p. 126 l.17)
To conclude it seems like that Alaska’s death was foreshadowed. The reader gets a lot of hidden clues which provide informations about Alaska‘s mentally poor condition.
