Discuss the risks and benefits of fracking
To produce energy without pollute the earth is very important for us and especially for our future. Nowadays people gain energy by burning coal, nuclear power and actually with renewable energy sources like wind, solar and water power. Recently a new way was found to produce or gain energy, with hydraulic fracting or „fracking“. But what is fracking? Fracking is a technique used to recover methane gas from layers of shale rock. Water is mixed with sand and chemicals who is pressed in rock layers in to the gas or oil carrying. The gas can flow out through small cracks they called „fissures“ and can used as energy. The following text describes the pros and cons of the fracking process.
The process of fracking brings a lot of downsides with it, for example it could pollute our groundwater. The chemicals are used for the small cracks. Firstly it is unknown how dangerous the chemicals are and secondly in some times the cracks can become bigger. The chemical substance which contaminate the water can lead to the groundwater and that is a big risk for people and for the next generation. When people drink or used the contaminated water to cook can become all ill in time.
Another disadvantage is the methane gas who flow out and come into our atmosphere. The methane gas is more dangerous as CO2 and that is a significant risk for the people who life in the near of fracking stations and of course for the other people because of the emissions. And these emissions are also very harmful for the climate stability.
But on the other hand fracking is a better choice to gain energy than nuclear energy. Since 2011 people found other ways to gain energy because of the fukushima catastrophe. Nuclear energy is perilous because of the nuclear waste and radioactive substances who can contaminate the world and this can have many consequences. People can become ill or the next generation have to life with lifelong damage, therefore the world is saver with fracking.
A further benefit is that fracking creates more new jobs, after all this is good for jobless people. For example mexican immigrants who came to the USA to earn money. The workers can operate the machines or can produce the mix of water, sand and chemicals for the cracks.
