The great dream of Louis Braille was to be able to read. He was born on the 4th January 1809 in Paris and he became blind with three years.
With 16 years he invented a document for blind people, the braille named after him. The principle is simple: Letters are pressed on the paper back so that they are on the front as elevations to palpate. It’s easy to try out with a sheet of paper and a pencil.
The letters consist of up to six points which are ordered in the square. Depending on combination and number of points another letter is represented. The braille is used today –in the whole world. The world braille day is every year on January 4th.
The blind people cannot read only on the paper, they can read text messages and e-mails. How is this possible? There is a special equipment for it. The ones can recognize the text and then read it, the others can change the letters into the braille.
The texts which can be seen on the computer monitor can become palpate on the braille display. This works also at mobile phones: The display is replaced by a braille line.
I think that this invention is very important for blind people. Because the blind people can integrate themselves better in the society with the help of the braille. You can learn almost all professions which have to do with writing or reading.
For example, wonderful stories of blind humans can be written. It grants an important human right to be able read and write. The braille is important for every blind people every day. One reads everywhere. Without braille life would be more difficult and more exhausting. So, I think that the braille is very important because it makes everything much easier for them.
