is, are, am + verb + ing

linda enters the room and sees her brother lying on the floor, reading a book.

= ein vorgang hat in der vergangenheit angefangen und dauert noch an/ ist noch nicht abgeschlossen.

Du verwendest das Present Progressive wenn du einen ZUstand beschrieben willst der gerade passiert . Bsp. I am playing with my dog .

das nimmt man, wenn man gerade etwas macht.. ich sitze gerade am pc i'm sitting

das nimmt man , wenn man etwas gerade macht

Warum läßt Du Dir nicht von Deinem Sohn helfen? Er hat das doch in der Schule gelernt. Andersrum scheint es ja nicht zu funktionieren.

Simple Present

Form: f.ex. I run; you run; he/she/it runs We run; you run, they run

a) Most animals kill only for food.

b) The world is round. The simple present says that something was true in the past, the present and the future. It is used for facts.

c) I study for two hours.

d) My classes begin at nine.
It is used to express habits / everyday activities.

d) I have only 1$ right now.

f) He needs a pen at the moment.
Certain verbs are not used in the progressive form.

Signalwords: every day/week/month/year; normally, generally, usually…

Present Progressive

Form: to be (am/are/is/are) + infinitive +-ing

Start now finish?

a) John is sleeping (now). b) I need an umbrella, it's
raining. c) John and Mary are talking on the phone. The present progressive expresses an activity in progress at the moment of speaking.

d) She is reading a book. e) I am taking 5 courses this year. Something is in progress this week/month/year.

f) Mary is always leaving her
dirty socks on the floor. I'm not her maid!
Present progressive with always/constantly… is used to express annoyance or anger.

Signalwords: now, at the moment, "look" (he is coming…),..

Noch ein Tipp für die Zukunft: Dein Sohn hat ein Englischbuch, in dem es entweder in jedem Kapitel einzeln oder zusammengefasst am Schluss einen Grammatikteil gibt. Cornelsen hat für seine "English G"-Reihe (d. h., für alle sechs Bände der Sekundarstufe I in allen Schulformen) einen Grammatikband herausgegeben, in dem man eben mal schnell nachschlagen kann, was man nicht weiß.
